What I Wore for a Sunday evening stroll

On our trip to Venice last year L'Homme and I went out for gelato almost every night and would love to do the same at home but a gelato parlour is hard to find on a Sunday night in the UK so we have to settle for McFlurries (not the same I know but the spirit is there) and a stroll in the park!
Jacket (H&M) Dress (Primark) Leather Satchel (Gift) Owl ring (Primark) Nude Ballerina Flats (Topshop) Belt (H&M) Diamond and Pearl drop earrings (gift from L'Homme).

It's Time To Get Body Beautiful!

In July I will be heading to sunnier climes, Portugal to be precise...to a beautiful villa where I will be eating tasty food, relaxing in the sun, catching up on some great books, drinking delicious wine/cocktails...

http://www.villavitanova.com/
And wearing a bikini....

So a body beautiful plan is in order to trim down any wobbly bits and freshen up the skin that's been sheltering under black tights and jumpers for the winter!

Body

To get my body a bit leaner and a bit more toned I'll be trying out an intensive 30 day workout routine recommended to me by my friend at http://www.jenlovesstuff.com/ who is trying it out right now. She comes into work a bit sore but glad and after reading a few internet reviews I'm going to give it a try.

The routine is called Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred and just the picture of Jillian on the cover is inspiration enough, not to mention that it only takes a mere 20 minutes out of your day to complete the entire workout!

You are guided through an Interval System that combines strength, cardio and abs to break down calories for results in just 30 days through three levels of intensity, I'm excited to start and am looking forward to seeing the results.

Skin

A little intensive treatment is required to banish any dry, tired weather beaten skin and I'll be changing up my shower routine with three products from Joules which claim to Give every part of your body a little tender loving care.

I'll be using Sensational Skin Body Wash Souffle, Simply Scrubbly Body Scrub and Remarkably Re hydrating Body Butter.

They look and smell scrumptious and even after just one use my skin is feeling super soft and on its way to re hydration.

I'll also be using Sit Tight sit activated special lower body firming formula from Soap & Glory as part of my new routine. This stuff gives a warm tingle when you rub it in and true to its word my skin does feel and look firmer when I use it, especially good for the backs of thighs and for keeping my bottom nice and pert - essential for sporting a bikini.

Teeth

The feeling of having a nice white smile and being confident and fresh on all those holiday snaps can't be beaten and I just love White Strips Classic from Crest. You can't get them in the UK (annoying!) but they're easily found on EBay and after a couple of goes my teeth look so much whiter!

They are thin strips of flexible plastic coated in the whitening solution which you place on your teeth for 30 minutes and once you've used them for a month and your teeth are whitened you can start using them just once or twice a month for maintenance.

I also use whitening toothpaste just to remove any temporary staining from things I like such as red wine and tea! My favourite is Beverly Hills Formula Total Protection Whitening which I buy from Home Bargains for a couple of pounds.

Beauty

I don't like to wear too much makeup on holiday but I do love a colourful nail varnish to compliment my tan. These three summer bright colours are gorgeous and I might even be tempted to start wearing them before my hol, they are 825 Sky High by Rimmel, 272 Shocking Pink by Barry M and Antique Coral by Natural Collection.

In the evenings I like to even out my face and collar bone with a little bronzer and I love the tone which Hoola by Benefit gives, It's also great for a little contouring just below the cheek bone and for a nice holiday glow i'll be packing my Posie Tint for a sheer, light blush.

With a dash of lipstick, either 416 Coral Fever by Maybelline or 75 Gay Geranium by No7 i'll be ready for cocktails in the barmy outdoors!

Bedroom Makeover

When we first viewed our home-to-be there were many things we wanted to change immediately but when we moved in having a nice, relaxing bedroom to retire to after 14 hours of decorating suddenly became our top priority.

The textured, shiny wallpaper had to go so the steamers and scrapers were out in force and then came the huge tub of white paint, oh bliss! The drab carpet went in a skip and we hired a floor sander to bring the beautiful wooden floor back to life.

I loved the pretty original Victorian hearth tiles, they were an inspiration but they looked out of place with no fire so I trawled EBay for reclaimed cast iron fireplaces and got this one for a steal at £15! It came from the upstairs of a Victorian pub so was the perfect period for our bedroom. We blow torched years of pink, blue, yellow and cream paint from it and gave it a lick of fresh white gloss.
Then to one of my favourite shops for beautiful home wares, Laura Ashley. It is expensive but if you head there during the sales you really can get some fabulous discounts and the quality really is a cut above. There we bought their wallpaper called 'Summer Palace' and I immediately had visions of floating around my boudoir wrapped in a vintage chinese dressing gown reading poetry and drinking camomile tea.
We also picked up two bedside table lamps in beautiful pink glass.

After a few coats of paint and a bit of drying time I couldn't wait to see what our furniture would look like in the room.

With the wallpaper, fireplace, lamps and bedside tables (I will post about the project at some point) all in the room looked great and just how I imagined. I am thrilled at how it turned out and am hoping to do a piece of art for above the fire and perhaps put some twinkly fairy lights around the curtain poles when I find a spare hour or two!!

Fireplace (EBay), Bedding (TK Maxx, Ikea, Next) Net Curtains (Ikea) Jars (selection from TK Maxx, Taskers DIY and Ikea) Chandelier (B&Q) Bedside Tables (refurbished-project post soon to come) Bed (Argos) Amity Bedside Lamp (Laura Ashley)

Alabama Shakes

Bonjour,

I've been listening to a lot of music recently since I acquired Spotify and I have a new favourite band whose songs have just been replaying in my head over and over.

They are Alabama Shakes and according to their website http://www.alabamashakes.com/ their union sounds organic and such a refreshing change from all these TV talent shows. These guys met each other, jammed and played to their souls content and they have born something thrilling in their debut album Boys & Girls.

Picture from http://www.alabamashakes.com/

Brittany Howard is the singer and she rips up the vocal on their debut album Boys & Girls like some kind of illegitimate love child of mick jagger and nina simone, the crazy concoction is a roaring, scratching, heavy soul/rock orgy and just when you think you've got her pinned she pulls her voice back inside and all of a sudden it's as smooth as melted chocolate and those hairs on your neck will be upstanding.

Picture from http://www.alabamashakes.com/
The first two songs on the album are Hold On and I Found You and with their relaxed, lazy guitar pattern and bluesy verses they settle you into a laidback atmosphere and theres no question you'll want to hear more. Their soulful vibe seems effortless and harks back to when the band started out playing Otis Redding and James Brown covers and writing their own stuff on Brittanys floor.

You Ain't Alone takes you by surprise, starting along the same lines as the previous tracks bringing Al Green right back to life but then there is this defiant punk rock undertone teasing it's way through. As the song progresses it almost sounds like an anthem penned by David Bowie, the percussion from Steve Johnson crashes all over the mesmerising guitar and bass lines from Heath Fogg and Zac Cockrell and it all comes together in a gritty, down and dirty, wild blowout.

Don't take my word for it though, get the album...turn it up loud and drink it slowly like an expensive whisky...Alabama Shakes will dig in their profoundly emotional hands and pull out your soul.

What I Wore Today

I love clothes (actually lets make that capitals)
I LOVE CLOTHES!!! So I've decided to share my love of fashion with you and make a regular 'what I wore today' post.

My pink skirt is actually a dress and the striped top is really thin and lightweight so perfect for bright but still chilly days, they are both from one of many Primark hauls! My envelope bag is Zara and spiked bracelet (which I am obsessed with!) is from New Look. My pretty Paris necklace was a gift from my sister.

As this is my first post of this kind my lovely friend at http://www.jenlovesstuff.com/ helped me out with the snaps. Thank you Jen!
