Helen meets Charles Wills who is an army lieutenant writing for a newspaper in Paris, he is the total opposite to Helen and stays out of the wild party lifestyle by concentrating on writing his very own 'great American novel'.
The couple are passionately in love, they marry and have a daughter called Vicki and everything looks rosey when the family oil fields finally spill out some good fortune.
Charles is still trying to write his novel though and with the rejection letters from publishers rolling in, his ego is dented and he turns to drink for solace pushing his wife away and they begin to lead their party lifestyles apart.
Their reckless behaviour comes to a head one night and Helen spends the night with another man, returning later in the pouring rain and snow she finds herself locked out of their home and tragedy ensues as she struggles through the terrible weather in her gown to her sisters.I won't explain the ending but I will say it's pretty tragic and mellow-dramatic...just as these old movie gems should be!
